Detergents have properties for loosening soil in garments. Since most clothes washed aren't that dirty or soiled, throwing a ball shaped object in the wash without soap or detergent will clean your clothes. Although it smells good and seem cleaner when washed with detergent, that's all there is-it smells good. You can buy the cheapest detergent and it will do the same as expensive ones. You can even use a concentrated liquid like a dishwashing liquid to wash your clothes.
